What is Rural Cleansing?

What is going on in NH is no different than what is going on all over the USA.

It’s called “rural cleansing” and it is achieved through “regionalism”, managed in NH by unelected boards known as Regional Planning Commissions.

The desired result of regionalism is the “urbanization” of main town centers. Rural use is to be banned in the future in favor of “mega-cities” that are interconnected and form a new, more centralized, top down government.

The idea of regionalism is based on these goals, espoused by NH’s RPCs, as taken from their website:

1. Empowering Urban Counties
The most direct and efficient way to create metropolitan government in the majority of metro areas is to empower urban county government. In this scenario, the county government assumes the functions and responsibilities of the municipal governments within its boundaries, and municipalities are abolished.

2. Consolidating Cities and Counties
This involves creating area-wide governmental units, focusing on consolidating municipal governments with their surrounding county governments. Consolidation brings unification of the tax base and centralization of planning and zoning.

3. Combining Counties into Regional Governments
This involves combining several counties in the same metropolitan area into one regional government. Challenges to these regional approaches include potential loss of power at the local level.

In addition, the Granite State Future REGIONAL PLAN for NH states on its website that…

“Traditional Settlement Patterns & Development Design – keep the traditional New Hampshire landscape intact by focusing development in town centers and village areas, while leaving open and rural areas for agriculture, recreation, and other suitable uses.

You have to ask, who gets to decide what other “suitable uses” of rural lands might be?

To find out how to stop Rural Cleansing, Regionalism, and Urbanism, and reverse the trend toward the abolition of local control of rural use in your town in NH, please read this website and follow its blog:
