Liberty Tree Society urges Tea Party to “put down roots” before 2016

Keene, NH. March 17, 2014 –

The First Liberty Tree
On the morning of August 14, 1765 Boston awakened to discover King George’s Tax Collector hung in effigy from a great elm in protest of the hated Stamp Act. From that moment on it became known as the “Liberty Tree.” It stood in silent witness to countless meetings and celebrations and became the rallying place for the Sons of Liberty. The Tea Party was born there. In August 1775, as a last act of revenge, British soldiers cut it down because it bore the name “Liberty.”

The New Liberty Tree
The Liberty Tree Society, sponsored by Elm Research Institute, is an organization dedicated to the celebration of the “Liberty Tree”… the story of America’s first Declaration of Independence. Influential men like Sam Adams and John Hancock were members of the “Sons of Liberty”. They often met beneath the sheltering branches of a great American elm, known as the “Liberty Tree”. There they planned the rebellion which became the Revolution. Their flag, the Liberty Tree Flag, was flown from the “Liberty Tree” during their meetings. To date Liberty Tree Society has established over 500 Memorials in 42 states to commemorate the role of the Liberty Tree.

What is the Liberty Tree Memorial?
This memorial consists of a 6 to 14 ft. tall American Liberty Elm, ready for planting; a bronze plaque, telling the story of the original “Liberty Tree”, with room for customized message of dedication. Also included is a Memorial reproduction of the plaque on parchment, suitable for framing.

Will the Tea Party once again meet at the Liberty Tree?
Picture this: Tea Part chapters meeting at the Liberty Tree Memorial in backyards and school yards all across America urging fellow Patriots to honor the freedom born under the first Liberty Tree in August 1765. “Meet me at the Liberty Tree” would once again be heard all across the land.
