Trooper Suspended for Inappropriate Behavior

Last week a widely circulated video of two women being stopped by a Texas state trooper garnered the ire of many women across the blogosphere.

Angel Dobbs, 38, and her niece Ashley Dobbs, 24, were stopped by a male trooper on State Highway 161 and forced to exit their vehicles after the trooper thought he suspected a marijuana odor in the car. Despite no marijuana showing up after a search, he called on female trooper Kelly Helleson to perform a body cavity search on the women.

The public video shows Helleson using her fingers to search the anuses and vaginas of the women, without changing her gloves, on the side of the road in full view of the passing vehicles.

The trooper has now been suspended, with pay. But Angel Dobbs has filed a lawsuit which charges that Helleson irritated an anal cyst she suffers from during the search, causing her ‘severe and continuing pain and discomfort.’

The suit reads: ‘Angel Dobbs was overwhelmed with emotion and a feeling of helplessness and reacted stating that Helleson had just violated her in a most horrific manner.’

The question we ask is, why wasn’t the trooper who ordered the search also suspended?
