Tribute to Trayvon Martin

From a friend in Maryland:

“My sons come home today from Middle School (Marley Middle School, Glen Burnie, MD Anne Arundel County).

They both tell me and their mother that the school principal (Mr. Buckley) had a “special announcement” during the daily morning announcements on the P.A. system. For those wanting exact details it happened on the morning of 3/26/2012. The principal tells the student body that a “child” who happens to be their age was shot and killed for acting suspicious and wearing a hoodie in Florida. The principal then goes on to say that the students will be allowed to wear their hoodies in memory of the “tragic Florida shooting”. He also said the “child” was doing nothing but buying Skittles and iced tea.

I have a SERIOUS problem with this being discussed in this manner and with so few facts. This is a sensitive issue, and the details are still being reported. The principal has no right to bring such a sensitive subject up when he doesn’t even know the details. This is a racially charged issue and if my two caucasian sons go to school without the “requested” hoodie then people of other races may take that as an insult or “diss” and there will certainly be verbal confrontations and possibly physical violence over the lack of expected attire.

The person shot was NOT the same age of ANY student in that middle school; the person shot (Trayvon Martin) was 17 YEARS OLD. There hasn’t even been an examination of any evidence by a Grand Jury yet this principal is telling impressionable children falsehoods. He is taking his PERSONAL OPINIONS and pushing it on children without facts.

I find this completely unacceptable and I plan to report this to the local media and the school superintendent.”
