Ward Bird Sentence Commuted

The Union Leader reports today that the Governor’s Council voted unanimously for a commutation of the sentence to time served.

The felony conviction should in our opinion also not be allowed to stand. It was made based on a statement from a convicted criminal who claimed he ‘brandished’ the gun at her when he merely took it out to put the safety on before returning to his house.

Even so, ‘brandishing’ should not be a crime on one’s own property if one is feeling threatened or if a trespasser refuses to leave when asked. It sort of defeats the whole purpose for why one owns a gun for self-protection in the first place.
