Porter’s Astroturfing Shame

This article in Seacoast Online reveals the massive astroturf network used by this administration to make it look like there was massive support for their health care takeover and praise for Carol Shea-Porter.

In an article entitled “Cut & paste opinions: Line of authenticity blurred” the paper explains how people used letters given to them, sometimes without even adding the necessary information to customize.

The astroturf crusade was led by Organizing for America, a group closely tied to the Center for American Progress and the White House.

“Passing health reform is a historic victory for all Americans — for families, seniors, young people, workers and small businesses alike,” the OFA Web site read. “But many in Congress who stood up for reform are already facing well-funded attacks from special interests in retaliation — so we have to get our voices out there to make sure enemies of reform don’t dominate the public discussion in these crucial moments.”
