{"id":2802,"date":"2010-04-02T14:08:15","date_gmt":"2010-04-02T18:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/?p=2802"},"modified":"2010-04-02T14:08:15","modified_gmt":"2010-04-02T18:08:15","slug":"windham-man-attends-nevada-tea-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/2010\/04\/02\/windham-man-attends-nevada-tea-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Windham Man Attends Nevada Tea Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This letter appeared in the April 2 edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/editorial_opinion\/letters\/articles\/2010\/04\/02\/at_nevada_rally_the_people_of_the_real_america\/\">Boston.com&#8217;s letters to the editor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At Nevada rally, \u2018the people of the real America\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nMY WIFE and I were fortunate to attend the Tea Party Express rally in Searchlight, Nev., on Saturday.<br \/>\nThe media have often characterized Tea Party supporters as anything but a grass-roots organization. They are supposedly organized by big business or special-interest groups. They are supposed to be populated by Republican operatives and political wonks.<\/p>\n<p>From what I saw at the rally, that seemed far from the case.<\/p>\n<p>We joined thousands of everyday Americans who parked at the side of the highway and walked two miles or more to a natural amphitheater in the middle of the desert \u2014 all to make our voices heard in protest of big government, big taxes, and the politicians who force them on us.<\/p>\n<p>It was a gathering of young and old, families and singletons. Men and women carried their children and pushed strollers. We saw people with wheelchairs, walkers, bikes, motorcycles, and scooters.<\/p>\n<p>The signs they carried weren\u2019t mass produced in print shops. They were homemade.<\/p>\n<p>There was no sea of purple SEIU t-shirts or groups of other unions pressing their own agendas.<\/p>\n<p>It was the people of the real America.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Michelle Obama, who only became proud of her country two years ago, I have always been proud of my country and its accomplishments for good in the world.<\/p>\n<p>But after Saturday, I\u2019m a little bit more proud.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Moran<br \/>\nWindham, N.H. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This letter appeared in the April 2 edition of Boston.com&#8217;s letters to the editor.
