{"id":15207,"date":"2016-06-16T18:28:32","date_gmt":"2016-06-16T22:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/?p=15207"},"modified":"2016-06-16T18:28:32","modified_gmt":"2016-06-16T22:28:32","slug":"ndaa-reauth-includes-women-and-the-draft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/2016\/06\/16\/ndaa-reauth-includes-women-and-the-draft\/","title":{"rendered":"NDAA Reauth Includes Women and the Draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No civilized country drafts its women.<\/p>\n<p>On June 14th, the U.S. Senate voted 85-13 to approve a version of the proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/senate-bill\/2943\/all-actions?overview=closed&#038;q=%7B%22roll-call-vote%22%3A%22all%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\">National Defense Authorization Act<\/a> for Fiscal Year 2017 (S. 2943) <strong>including a provision which, if also approved by the House of Representatives and signed into law by the President, would extend draft registration to women.<\/strong>  Bernie Sanders and Barbara Boxer were the only Senators absent from this vote.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was sponsored by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) who is facing a tough re-election campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Senators Boxer (D-CA) and Sanders (I-VT) not voting, these are the 13 Senators who voted NO.<\/p>\n<p>Crapo (R-ID)<br \/>\n<strong>Cruz (R-TX)<\/strong><br \/>\nGillibrand (D-NY)<br \/>\nLeahy (D-VT)<br \/>\nLee (R-UT)<br \/>\nMarkey (D-MA)<br \/>\nMerkley (D-OR)<br \/>\n<strong>Paul (R-KY)<\/strong><br \/>\nReid (D-NV)<br \/>\nRisch (R-ID)<br \/>\nSasse (R-NE)<br \/>\nWarren (D-MA)<br \/>\nWyden (D-OR)<\/p>\n<p>The bill would have to be reconciled with the House version and then sent to the President for signing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_lists\/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&#038;session=2&#038;vote=00098\" target=\"_blank\">See the bill&#8217;s roll call here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No civilized country drafts its women.
