{"id":13489,"date":"2013-11-20T20:06:44","date_gmt":"2013-11-21T00:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/?p=13489"},"modified":"2013-11-20T20:07:14","modified_gmt":"2013-11-21T00:07:14","slug":"walnuts-are-now-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/2013\/11\/20\/walnuts-are-now-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Walnuts Are Now Drugs?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhteapartycoalition.org\/tea\/2010\/11\/15\/legislative-alert-act-now-to-stop-s-510\/\">Well, we tried to warn you about the FDA about three years ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.realfarmacy.com\/walnuts-are-drugs-says-fda\/\">The FDA wants to regulate walnuts as drugs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn\u2019t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, \u201cYour walnut products are drugs\u201d \u2014 and \u201cnew drugs\u201d at that \u2014 and, therefore, \u201cthey may not legally be marketed \u2026 in the United States without an approved new drug application.\u201d The agency even threatened Diamond with \u201cseizure\u201d if it failed to comply.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The FDA\u2019s letter continues: \u201cWe have determined that your walnut products are promoted for conditions that cause them to be drugs because these products are intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease.\u201d Furthermore, the products are also \u201cmisbranded\u201d because they \u201care offered for conditions that are not amenable to self-diagnosis and treatment by individuals who are not medical practitioners; therefore, adequate directions for use cannot be written so that a layperson can use these drugs safely for their intended purposes.\u201d Who knew you had to have directions to eat walnuts?<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, we tried to warn you about the FDA about three years ago.
