“It’s not a matter of if it’s going to pass, it’s a matter of when,” <\/em>said Michael Kercheval, president and chief executive of the International Council of Shopping Centers, the global trade association for the shopping center industry. <\/p>\n

\n“In classic Beltway fashion, the government has introduced a bill to pick winners and losers in the marketplace with a name implying the exact opposite. The Marketplace Fairness Act, introduced by Senators Michael Enzi (R\u2013Wyo.), Dick Durbin (D\u2013Ill.) and Lamar Alexander (R\u2013Tenn.), would force online stores to collect sales taxes on behalf of other states, regardless of the web company\u2019s physical location.”<\/em><\/p>\n
